Joining us at TEDxExeter 2018

We are delighted that you are coming to join us at TEDxExeter 2018 – welcome!

Firstly, we’d recommend that you take a few minutes to read this brilliant blog – “11 Things I Wish I Knew Before Attending My First TEDx Event”

And now, here is some information to help you plan for the day.

Arrivals and ticket collections  | Travel and parking | Water and refreshments | Sponsor stands and more to see | Social media | Watch online | Filming

Arrivals and Ticket Collections

Our team of volunteers will be ready to welcome you, but registering over 900 people takes time so please arrive early!

Exeter Northcott Theatre:
Registration opens: 8.30am
Programme starts: 9.25am
Programme finishes: 5.15pm

Seats are unallocated and the theatre doors will be closed during the speakers’ talks so please ensure that you leave plenty of time to arrive at the theatre.

If you have received tickets, please bring them with you on the day. Our volunteers will register you and exchange your ticket for a wristband as you arrive. Please wear your wristband throughout the day: you’ll need to show it to gain entrance to our conference venues and it contains information about how to collect your refreshments during the breaks.

For those of you who haven’t yet been sent tickets, you’ll need to collect them from the Northcott Theatre box office when you arrive. Please then talk to one of our volunteers who will register you and give you a wristband.

Alumni Auditorium livestream:
Registration opens: 8.30am
Programme starts: 9.10am
Programme finishes: 5.15pm

Seats are unallocated, and the auditorium doors will be closed during the programme to avoid disruption.

If you have received tickets, please bring them with you on the day. There is no need for you to go to the Northcott Theatre if you have a ticket for the Alumni Auditorium livestream. Our volunteers will register you and exchange your ticket for a wristband as you arrive.

Please wear your wristband throughout the day: you’ll need to show it to gain entrance to our conference venues and it contains information about how to collect your refreshments during the breaks.

For those who haven’t yet been sent tickets, you’ll need to collect them on arrival from the temporary box office in the Forum.

Travel and parking
Parking on campus is extremely limited: we strongly recommend that you travel to the venue by foot, bike, bus or taxi. The bus stop and bike stands are only a few minutes walk away from the front doors.

The Exeter Northcott Theatre and The Alumni Auditorium are situated on Stocker Road, on the Streatham Campus of the University of Exeter.

Find out more about a car-free journey to TEDxExeter 2018 here. Full directions to the Streatham Campus are here and there are up to date parking details here.

A map of the campus  shows the location of bus stops, which are much closer than the car parks.

There are a limited number of disabled parking spaces near the Theatre. If you require disabled parking, please contact Sally.

Water and refreshments
Sustainability is very important to us and we’ll be avoiding single use plastics at the event, including plastic cups for water during the breaks. We’re hugely grateful to South West Water who are bringing a water bowser where you can refill bottles during the day.

Refreshments will be provided in Great Hall and adjoining Terrace Restaurant during the breaks.

Please look at the number printed on your TEDxExeter wristband: that indicates which are of the Great Hall to go to for your refreshments.

Our menu is vegetarian. If you require a gluten free or vegan lunch then please ask a volunteer who will direct you to the right place.

We have a limited number of chairs and tables: please be aware of those who are in need of them.

We don’t provide refreshments during registration, but you can buy coffee on the piazza outside the Northcott, in the Northcott bar, or in the Forum and INTO Building nearby.

Sponsor stands, speaker area, experiences and bookshop
Please say hello to our sponsors, who have done so much to support the event. There will also be a number of NGO, activist stands and TEDxExeter experiences, which we hope you will support and enjoy.

We hope that many of the speakers will spend some time in the area near the bookshop, so you will be able to connect with them… and don’t forget to buy their books!

We are bringing the National Crime Agency’s Invisible People exhibition on modern slavery to the Piazza.

Social Media
Please switch off all tech devices whilst you’re in the Northcott Theatre.
Light from devices can be distracting for our speakers and performers, interfere with filming of the talks and are disturbing for people sitting nearby.

If you are attending the Livestream event in the Alumni Auditorium, you are welcome to use technology and devices considerately during the talks. Please ensure that all devices are in silent mode and make the most of the breaks and lunchtime to share your thoughts online.

Please do tweet and share your experiences of the day – @TEDxExeter #TEDxExeter and on Facebook.
