Joining Instructions – 2019

Joining Instructions

We are delighted that you are coming to join us at TEDxExeter 2019 – welcome!

Firstly,  we’d recommend that you take a few minutes to read this brilliant blog – “11 Things I Wish I Knew Before Attending My First TEDx Event.”

And now, here is some information to help you plan for the day.

Our team of volunteers will be ready to welcome you, but registering over 900 people takes time so please arrive early!

Exeter Northcott Theatre: Arrivals and Ticket Collection

Registration will open at 8.30am and the programme will start promptly at 9.15am.

Seats are unallocated and the theatre doors will be closed during the speakers’ talks so please ensure that you leave plenty of time to arrive at the theatre.

The programme will finish at around 5.30pm.

Please bring your Eventbrite ticket confirmation on the day. You can bring it on your phone or print it out. Our volunteers will register you via the Eventbrite App when you arrive and give you a wristband. Please wear your wristband throughout the day: you’ll need to show it to gain entrance to our conference venues and it contains information about how to collect your refreshments during the breaks.

If you bought multiple tickets in your name please send the names and email addresses of the people who will join you on the day to Rosie Hawkins. We need their details in advance to ensure that registration is smooth for everyone.

Schools Groups

We are delighted you are joining us at TEDxExeter 2019!

Please email the contact details of the person who is leading the group on the day so we can share our joining instructions and help you plan the day.

on arrival please come to the Alumni Auditorium with your students and we will register you there.

If you are planning to arrive by minibus or coach please email Rosie Hawkins as soon as possible.

Travel and parking

Parking on campus is extremely limited: we strongly recommend that you travel to the venue by foot, bike, bus, taxi or why not hire one of Co-bikes electric bikes form the city centre and drop it off on campus? u

The Exeter Northcott Theatre and The Alumni Auditorium are situated on Stocker Road, on the Streatham Campus of the University of Exeter.

Full directions to the Streatham Campus are here and there are up to date parking details here.

A  map of the campus  shows the location of bus stops, which are much closer than the car parks.

There are a limited number of disabled parking spaces near the Theatre. If you require disabled parking, please contact Rosie.

Water – Bring your own water bottle!

Sustainability is very important to us and we’ll be avoiding single use plastics at the event, including plastic cups for water during the breaks. We’re hugely grateful to South West Water who are bringing a water bowser where you can refill bottles during the day.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be provided in the Great Hall and adjoining Terrace Restaurant during the breaks.

Please look at the number printed on your TEDxExeter wristband: that indicates which area of the Great Hall to go to for your refreshments.

Our menu is vegetarian. If you require a gluten free or vegan lunch then please ask a volunteer who will direct you to the right place.

We have a limited number of chairs and tables: please be aware of those who are in need of them.

We don’t provide refreshments during registration, but you can buy coffee on the piazza outside the Northcott, in the Northcott bar, or in the Forum and INTO Building nearby.

Partner stands, speaker area, experiences and bookshop

Please say hello to our Partners, who have done so much to support the event. There will also be a number of NGO, activist stands and TEDxExeter experiences, which we hope you will support and enjoy.

We hope that many of the speakers will spend some time in the area near the bookshop, so you will be able to connect with them… and don’t forget to buy their books!

Social Media

Please switch off all tech devices whilst you’re in the Northcott Theatre.

Light from devices can be distracting for our speakers and performers, interfere with filming of the talks and are disturbing for people sitting nearby.

If you are attending the Livestream event in the Alumni Auditorium, you are welcome to use technology and devices considerately during the talks. Please ensure that all devices are in silent mode and make the most of the breaks and lunchtime to share your thoughts online.

Please do Tweet and share your experiences of the day – @TEDxExeter #TEDxExeter and on Facebook. Most of our speakers are also on Twitter – find out their Twitter handles in our Speaker Twitter Handles 2019 guide.

Films of all our talks will be released online during May 2019: please make sure you have joined our mailing list if you want to hear from us when they are live!

We hope you have a fantastic day!
