“Martin Luther King did not say in his famous speech “I have a SMART target”
Abbie McGregor – TEDxExeter 2016
Abbie McGregor
Remember to DREAM
Told by a teacher that her dreams were unachievable and that she should set realistic goals at the age of eight, Abbie wasn’t daunted. Rebelling against the use of SMART targets (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound) in schools she proposes an alternative acronym, one that encourages young people to think for themselves and dream big.
Abbie McGregor delivered this talk as a first year student at Exeter College studying law, biology, critical thinking, English literature and English language. She hopes to have a career in law after her degree. She is passionate about inspiration and drives herself, as well as others, to do their absolute best.
